Receiving public medical assistance in Minnesota means those who are residents will have access to quality and affordable care. Not only does this include coverage for medical but also reproductive and mental health. Under some circumstances, residents can qualify for low or no cost health care plans in Michigan depending on their finances.

What's Available in Minnesota

For those who are looking for Minnesota health care programs, there are two available. The first one is entitled Medical Assistance (MA) and the second is MinnesotaCare. Those residents who are very low-income can apply for Medical Assistance, and it will pay for their medical care. Eligibility requirements must be met first, however.

Applying for public health care programs requires residents to visit or call the human service agency within the county they're residing. For those who are unsure they'll meet eligibility requirements, it's still a good idea to apply.

During the application process, proof of some of the information provided will be required. It's also a requirement that applicants speak to an individual working for the agency at the county. If anyone is having difficulty filling out the form, they will assist and provide any additional health care information they need. Copies of the form are available at the Department of Human Services website to print, fill out, and mail into the agency.

Within 45 days, the agency will let the applicant know if they meet the eligibility requirements. It takes fifteen days to receive a response for pregnant women and sixty days for those who need disability certification. Decisions that are not made within that timeframe will receive letters from the agency explaining why.

If Residents Meet Eligibility Requirements

Those who meet eligibility requirements will have enrollment in the MA program. At that point, the financial worker may ask for items including checking or savings account statements, proof of assets, proof of income, and proof of unearned income. It's possible to receive total health care insurance under MA, as well as health care security.

Those who need child health care plans or personal health care plans can apply for eligibility under the MinnesotaCare or Medical Assistance program. While these programs don't offer business health care plans or global health care insurance, they're similar to a united healthcare HMO in that they offer health care transportation to those who need help with rides to appointments, and residents can obtain a copy of their health care act summary upon request.
